Book Review: Take Me To Your Heart Again (Redcliffe Sisters Series, Book 2) by Marius Gabriel

Hi all,

I read the first book in this series, Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye, and absolutely loved it. So, of course, when the second book in the series became available, I just had to read it. Here is more about the book and my 5-Star review.

Take Me To Your Heart Again

Marius Gabriel

Book Description:

Tensions between three sisters, divided by life and love, are about to spill over into all-out conflict.

It is 1942 and the world is at war. The eldest of the Redcliffe sisters, Isobel, impulsive and ideological, strives to make herself heard in a world distracted by violence. But her ambitious new path is strewn with obstacles, not least a private scandal that threatens to become public. Optimist Chiara has had to grow up fast, to set aside teenage dreams and make way for the unexpected realities of adulthood—but who can she count on for help? Meanwhile Felicity has challenges of a more spiritual nature: will her journey of self-discovery lead her away from the convent she thought was her calling?

Separated by distance and war, Isobel, Chiara and Felicity must learn to confront life’s challenges with passion, strength—and unity. Because family is the tie that binds tightest of all.

This is the second title in the Redcliffe Sisters series and follows on from Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye.

My 5-Star Review:

This novel continues on where we left the Redcliffe sisters. It’s 1942 and Isobel has changed course again – politically and romantically. Chiara has lost the love of her life to Isobel, and is determined to make it on her own except there is a “bump” in the road. And former nun Felicity has taken life by the horns and is expecting all the life she missed in her youth in the convent. The sisters find a few surprises along the way – and new loves come their way. But who are they?

I truly enjoyed the second book in this series about these three very different sisters who have all gone their own way in life. Plenty of action, love, and drama amidst the horror of war. If you love novels from this time period, then this is the perfect series for you.

(I received a complimentary copy of this novel from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.)

About the Author:

Marius Gabriel served his author apprenticeship as a student at Newcastle University, where, to finance his postgraduate research, he wrote thirty-three Mills & Boon romances under a pseudonym. His identity as a man had to be kept secret until he turned to longer fiction under his own name. Gabriel is the author of eight sagas and historical novels, including the bestsellers The Mask of Time, The Original Sin and The Seventh Moon, and was once accused by Cosmopolitan magazine of ‘keeping you reading while your dinner burns’. He very seldom burns his own, however, being an enthusiastic cook, as well as an artist and a musician. Born in South Africa in 1954, he has lived and worked in many countries, and now divides his time between London and Cairo. He has three grown-up children.

Book Review: Curious Minds (A Knight and Moon Novel) by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton

Hi all,

When given a chance to read a book by Janet Evanovich (co-authored by Phoef Sutton) before it is released there is only one answer – YES! And I enjoyed this book immensely. I didn’t think I’d enjoy another Evanovich series as much as I do the Stephanie Plum novels, but this one has great potential. I hope there will be many more to come. Here is more about the book and my 5-star review.

Curious Minds

Janet Evanovich

Phoef Sutton

Book Description:

Emerson Knight is introverted, eccentric, and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he’s also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he’d probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with mega-bank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

What starts off as an inquiry about missing bank funds in the Knight account leads to inquiries about a missing man, missing gold, and a life-and-death race across the country. Through the streets of Washington, D.C., and down into the underground vault of the Federal Reserve in New York City, an evil plan is exposed. A plan so sinister that only a megalomaniac could think it up, and only the unlikely duo of the irrepressibly charming Emerson Knight and the tenacious Riley Moon can stop it.

My 5-Star Review:

What happens when an eccentric billionaire decides he’s a brilliant sleuth and drags his banker-turned-babysitter along for the ride? You get a great story that keeps you laughing and turning pages. Janet Evanovich has done it again along with author Phoef Sutton. They’ve managed to create interesting, slightly kooky, characters in Emerson Knight and Riley Moon that you like immediately. There is plenty of mystery and humor to keep you entertained throughout the novel. And, if we are really lucky, there will be many more to come!

If you enjoyed the Stephanie Plum novels by Evanovich, then you will love this story too.

About the Authors:

Janet Evanovich

Janet Evanovich is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum series, the Fox and O’Hare series with co-author Lee Goldberg, the Knight and Moon series, and the Lizzy and Diesel series as well as twelve romance novels, the Alexandra Barnaby novels, Troublemaker graphic novel, and How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author.

Phoef Sutton

Phoef Sutton was born in Washington DC. He cut his eye teeth as a playwright, but first made a living as a writer in TV. He worked on the classic NBC series CHEERS for eight years, and went on to write movies (THE FAN, MRS. WINTERBOURNE) and also serve as consulting producer and writer for BOSTON LEGAL and TERRIERS. He lives in South Pasadena, CA and Vinalhaven ME with his wife and two daughters.

His Secret Life

Gay men don’t fall in love with women. Do they?

Emily is an actress, waiting tables while starring in local plays and hoping for her big break. She agrees to be Philip’s date for the party, and soon they are attending one event after another together.

Philip and Emily click on many levels. Lines blur as the people they pretend to be start feeling like the people they are, causing a rift with Philip’s boyfriend Jason.

When Philip no longer works for the company, he doesn’t need Emily to play the role of his girlfriend anymore, but to his surprise, he can’t let her go.

My 5 Star Review:

Philip is a rising star in his company and doesn’t want anything to get in the way of his climb up the corporate ladder. Philip is also gay. Believing that his conservative bosses wouldn’t understand about his being gay, he’s been pretending he is straight and hiring women to pretend to be his girlfriend at company parties and dinners. But on one such occasion, he hires he sister’s roommate, Emily, an actress, to play the part of his girlfriend, and soon finds he is attracted to her. But could he possibly ever fall in love with a woman?

His Secret Life is a well-written and thoughtful love story with a twist. Kim Cano has written a story with well-fleshed-out characters and situations that make you pause and think. Philip’s story is unique, yet many men have felt as he has for generations. He knew he was gay, yet wasn’t comfortable telling the world, and he also wasn’t accepted by his father for who he was. Falling in love with Emily changed that, but Philip still struggled with how he felt. I think Kim did a wonderful job of expressing Philips feelings as he navigates unfamiliar territory. This is not your typical love story – but it is a thoughtful, interesting read.

About the Author:

Kim Cano is the author of four women's fiction novels: A Widow Redefined, On The Inside, Eighty and Out, and His Secret Life. Kim has also written a short story collection called For Animal Lovers. 10% of the sale price of that book is donated to the ASPCA® to help homeless pets.

Kim wrote a contemporary romance called My Dream Man under the pen name Marie Solka.

Kim lives in the Chicago suburbs with her husband and cat.
